COURSES

Each student at September School takes classes

designed to maximize their personal academic potential

and cultivate emerging talents and interests.

This includes in-depth preparation in the core academic areas of science, math, English, social studies, and foreign languages, as well as electives ranging from culinary arts and music to photography, computer science, and mindfulness. We also offer physical education courses, such as martial arts, weight training, and basketball.

Our daily schedule consists of four class periods, which allows students the opportunity to reflect and recharge between classes, as well as delve more deeply into each subject. We value depth of knowledge over breadth. Each day ends with the entire community of students and staff coming together in a “bow out”, a community circle that provides closure to the school day.

Many of our classes take advantage of the incredible natural world in Boulder, CO. In a biology class, students might spend the afternoon doing field work in the canyons and creeks that are within walking distance from our campus. Math problems might include modeling changes in the surrounding environment, and art classes may happen near open space or hiking trails. Getting outside for real-world, hands-on experiences is an important component of the September School experience.

The following is a sample of the typical academic coursework we offer. Course offerings change semester by semester, based on the needs and interests of our students.
