Community Class
Every Friday, we come together as an entire school for an hour to engage in activities, talk about issues important to the school, share announcements, celebrate successes, solve problems, and create new experiences together. Community class is an opportunity to build and strengthen our positive and inclusive school culture and deepen our relationships with one another. It also gives students opportunities to exercise leadership.
Follies
Creativity is a natural byproduct of engagement. It flows when students are excited to show what they know. Many of our students are passionate about visual arts, music, and performing arts and choose to share their talents at the Follies performance, a longstanding September School tradition. Held at various venues around Boulder, students present original songs, spoken word poetry, improv, and student directed plays. It is always a night filled with inspiration, beauty, and laughter.
Group Class
Led by counselors, Group is an opportunity for students to talk about school concerns, daily challenges, or their own personal issues in a confidential group space. Students sign up for Group like a regular class and receive health or elective credit for their participation. Group can be an especially helpful way for new students to socialize and form trusting relationships. The counselor helps students challenge themselves personally and emotionally. Students develop strategies for emotional maturity, problem solving, stress management, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Fall and Spring Trips
The world is a big place. We believe that exploration plays a big part in learning and development for young adults. Every Fall, all students and staff attend a multi-night adventure filled with new experiences, personal reflections, and community connections. Often these excursions take place in beautiful places in Colorado, such as Golden Gate Canyon State Park or YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Students room with other students and a teacher, cook meals together, collaborate with advisee groups for community tasks and goal setting, and have lots of free time to relax and play.
In the Spring, we venture beyond our local area. Past trips have included outdoor adventures in Zion National Monument, and the Grand Canyon, cultural expeditions in Chicago, New York, and Montreal, and tours in France, Spain, Italy, and Costa Rica. The cost of the Spring trip is the only additional fee incurred outside of tuition.
